I have been doing woodworking as a hobby since I purchased a Shopsmith 510 back in the last 1980s. A couple of years later I started using the lathe feature of the Shopsmith to turn a couple of bowls. In the late 1990s, I purchased a Powermatic 3520A lathe and have been hooked ever since. Some people have told me that using a lathe is almost compulsive.

Now one of my favorite things to turn are goblets with rather narrow stems. The goal of turning a nice looking goblet is to turn the "bowl" of the goblet with a good looking shape along with the walls of the "bowl". You must also do all of the sanding and finishing of the "bowl" before you start turning the stem and base of your goblet. You also have to make sure that the stem and base (both top and bottom) are also sanded and finished properly.
